The most popular dog’s name in NSW in 2020 was Bella and Max and Molly came in second and third.
Authorities have analysed 1.5 million dogs names on the NSW Pet Registry to ascertain the top 10 most popular names.
Minister for Local Government, Shelley Hancock, has released the names as part of a campaign to encourage pet owners to register their dog on the NSW Pet Registry.
“Microchipping and registering your dog is an important part of being a responsible pet owner,” Mrs Hancock said.
“Each year over 5,000 cats and dogs are reported lost across NSW and it’s often our council pounds that are left to care for missing pets.
“Registering your dog for a one-off lifetime fee and creating an online pet profile on the NSW Pet Registry gives you the best possible chance of having your beloved animal returned if it goes missing.”
Mrs Hancock said the pet registration fees helped to fund council animal shelters, ranger services, dog parks and education.
She also encouraged people thinking of getting a dog to visit an RSPCA shelter or council pound and rescue one rather than buying.
She said the NSW Government was offering half-price registration fees for dogs adopted from any rescue shelter.
The top 10 most popular dog names in 2020 were, in order – Bella, Max, Molly, Charlie, Buddy, Jack, Lucy, Ruby, Coco and Roxy.
