CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) – Black Dog Animal Rescue is making strides by hosting their first-ever vaccine clinic; however, BDAR representatives said the clinic is designed to go above and beyond vaccine services.
“This vaccine clinic is probably the first of many. Part of our goal during the vaccine clinics is to have conversations with people who attend them about their current relationship with the veterinarian. We know also that pet health care and access to resources for pets often overlaps with other challenges people have, and so we are really looking for how we can identify those intersections and what other opportunities there might be, not just for our organization to better serve our community, but to find places where people need more service, more access, and more integration in those programs,” said Founder and Executive Director of BDAR, Britney Tennant.
Tennant said BDAR works hard to bring awareness to not only pet health, but other challenges people in the community face when it comes to affordable services. Zoie Keast, Clinic/Shelter Project Manager said people often rehome pets or neglect pets’ health because they cannot afford the services necessary to keep them healthy.
BDAR’s mission is to advocate and promote pet health, and are working toward providing more pet services in Laramie County. Tennant said they want people to be able to discuss their needs, so that they can help guide people toward the necessary resources.
Tennant said it is important people know that, although BDAR wants to help get animal health on track, they are not a substitute for a regular veterinarian.
While BDAR would like to see maximum participation from the community, spots for the clinic are limited.
“We are appointment-based so we ask that you call our main line to schedule an appointment. We are offering appointments every 15 minutes from 9 -1 p.m. Just give us a call; you do need to be the legal owner of the animal and over 18 at the time of the vaccines,” said Keast.
