Jun. 26—Henry Higgins won the Dandie Dinmont Terrier breed category Sunday at the 145th Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. The show took place in Tarrytown, N.Y., and was aired on Fox Sports.
This was Henry Higgins’ 73rd breed win, according to Puna Terri Bell, president of Kaneohe-based Kea loha Kennels and Henry Higgins’ owner. He also has seven Best in Show wins from other shows.
“Other breeders from the United Kingdom … have been breeding for over 40 years, and they said he’s a once-in-a-lifetime Dandie and (his ) breeder says it’s the best she’s ever bred in 45 years, “
According to Bell, Henry Higgins will retire in January and return home after that. Henry Higgins has been training since February 2020, with Bell unable to see him often outside of a few minutes during his shows.
“Every six months I get to spend five minutes with him. It’s a killer, ” Bell said. “But, he’s doing his thing and he’s happy. As long as I see that he’s wagging his tail, I’m OK with that.”
Over 2, 500 dogs of more than 200 breeds competed at last weekend’s show. Wasabi the Pekingese won the competition’s top Best in Show prize.
