news, local-news,
Four members of Milton Ulladulla Dog Training Club helped an Australian based team win an international dog challenge competition. The locals and their dogs, during August and September this year, participated in an on-line disc competition for Up Dog Video Games which is hosted by Up Dog Challenge based in America. As well as individual competition there was a group competition called a Raiding Party which consisted of 23 participants from Australia including the four Milton Ulladulla Dog Club members. Their Raiding Party was called Land of Oz – Locked Down Under. There was a total of 15 Raiding Parties from across the world with various numbers in each party. Each Raiding Party’s results from the four games are combined to give an overall winner out of the 15 Raiding Parties and first place went to Land of Oz – Locked Down Under with Atlantic Canada Raiding Party in second place. The Milton Ulladulla Dog Training Club members produced an awesome result and are not only proud of themselves, but the other Australians from Sydney and Canberra who made up our Raiding Party to achieve overall first place. Here is how the competition runs. Each participant competed in four different games and their team comprised of the handler and their dog. Participants filmed their video and submitted it to Up Dog Video Games by the due date with the scores for each week The four different games are called Grenade, Ladder Match, Min Friz and Disc Dog Dough. The competition is held on a field that is 30 by 30 feet with nine 10 by10 feet squares. In the middle of the field is what is called a sweet spot and if your dog catches the disc in there you can earn bonus points. Each game has different catching zones and different scoring methods. The field is marked out with paint or cones so it can be clearly seen in the video sent to the USA. The disc is either thrown (throwers) or rolled along the ground (rollers) but your dog must catch the disc before it lands on the ground for both methods. In the Grenade game you can only use two discs and have 75 seconds. The objective is for your dog to catch as many discs as possible within the time limit thrown from your bunker [throwing line] on any side of the field, on or across the 30 foot line to the opposite side of the field. If a disc grenade is thrown but not caught by your dog it “blows up” and is no longer allowed to be used. In the Ladder Match game you can use up to five discs and have 75 seconds. The objective is to beat the clock and complete up to 15 disc throws, moving up and down the ladder earning points for each catch. Milton Ulladulla Dog Training Club members’ individual results were just as amazing and out of the 174 teams our placings were great. Their results were: Kylie White and Luna placed 7th Kylie White and Case placed 65th Rosie Milton and Dan placed 43rd Jenny Patch and Pippa placed 49th Danielle Butson and Tia placed 66th – Tia is our old girl and still loving her disc work at 13 years young Danielle Butson and Bailey placed 59th Danielle Butson and Lua placed 63rd You can find more information about the club here The club at the moment is closed, and like everyone, waiting for the lockdown restrictions to ease.
