In 1991 the store opened a New Braunfels location on Common Street, and in 2006 Krock’s daughters, Lauren Krock and Shannon Hanz, took over ownership and the operations of the shop.
“We just grew up in this business,” Lauren Krock said. “We’ve been doing it since the beginning, and it’s nice, the way that it’s grown, and the community has supported it.”
The store offers a variety of goods including bulk herbs and spices, vitamins, body care products, fresh groceries and dry goods, Krock said. Customers can also buy fresh drinks from the organic juice bar. While working at another health food store while in art school in California, Krock said she learned important skills that have helped her run For Goodness Sake more effectively, like the importance of rotating offerings and adding new products to the shelves.
“We’re always changing it up and keeping it fresh,” she said. “I think people like that, and it’s what brings them back in.”
While Krock and her team work to bring new items to every department in the store, customer demand for vitamins and supplements to boost the immune system has increased in recent months.
Many of the staff at the shop have worked there for more than 10 years and are well-educated in the store’s inventory, a factor Krock says has set the store apart from other area groceries.
“We have trainings with vendors that come in,” Krock said. “So we learn, and then we help people learn, too.”
Employees regularly assist customers with finding the best product for their needs and get to know their regular customers by name, Krock said.
“To be able to go into a store and people call you by your name is rare these days,” Krock said. “You come in here and it’s like, it’s just nice to be recognized.”
